Locum General Practitioner

Dr John Elliott is available to undertake General Practice Locum Sessions in the Southampton, Winchester and Portsmouth areas of South Hampshire.

When you ask me to work for you for the first time I will send you my Curriculum Vitae and other documentation for your files and if you require further information please ask.

My preference is for full-day or half-day working, but I would consider shorter sessions and may be available at short notice subject to bookings. Paperwork or visits can be undertaken so long as these can be completed within the agreed times. I charge the normal prevailing rates.

I like to offer 10 minute consultations as routine, but I am prepared to consider other ways of working and would be committed to supporting your Practice in whatever way I can.

About me

I retired from full-time General Practice in January 2005 having spent 28 happy years as a Partner at Woolston Lodge Surgery in Southampton working in a team committed to a patient-centred approach.

I qualified in Edinburgh in 1969 and following House Officer and SHO jobs there, I came to Southampton to work in Psychiatry for 5 years, reaching Senior Registrar level. I joined Woolston Lodge Surgery in 1977.

My particular interests are psychological aspects of General Practice and complementary medicine and I have developed these areas by further training. These concepts have been very useful in helping people view illness in context and put more emphasis on finding solutions. For me this generates more doctor satisfaction.

Since retiring I have worked in lots of different Practices and have found this stimulating and rewarding. I have even "mastered" the different computer systems! I like to keep up my skills and welcome the opportunity to be of service to you.
